V*ideoletters is a project that deals with friendships that have been severed by the disintegration of former Yugoslavia. It connects the people that were once close and who have found the strength to ask each other the difficult questions: Are you alive and well...Do you remember me...Do you hate me...Did you kill my countrymen during the war...Are we still friends....
During the years of filming in countries of former Yugoslavia, the authors Rejger & van den Broek carried video letters of former friends, co-workers and neighbors. Then they carried the answers back to the senders, until both parties got the answers to their question:Why haven't you called me since the war? The result is the V* series of twenty moving documentary stories, in which, in most cases, protagonists meet for the first time after the war and ten years of silence, after exchanging video letters.
National Televisions of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo, as well as TV B92, shall all broadcast the V*series in period from April to June 2005. Videoletters is the first project that has enabled cooperation of these RTV stations since the war. Simultaneous broadcasting in all countries provides the viewers the opportunity to renew dialog with former friend that now live "across the border"
Katarina Rejger and Eric van den Broek are Dutch directors and authors of the V*ideoletters project. With their work they have achieved world recognition and awarded the Prix Europa in Berlin, the International Journalism Prize in Washington, as well as the Human Rights Prize in the USA. They have also been nominated for the Amnesty International Prize. For the Videoletters series the Human Rights Watch awarded them with the Nestor Almendes Prize.
